Your BHS Womens Varsity and JV Soccer teams took home honors from the annual River Valley Cup hosted by Greenwood High School this past weekend. Your Varsity Lady Tigers brought home first place, going undefeated with a combined score margin of 17-0, culminating in Championship win over local rivals Rogers by 3-0. In addition, your JV Lady Tigers won the consolation bracket, going 2-1 in the process.

Varsity began play on Friday night, defeating Putnam City West(OK) by a score of 7-0. PCW put up a fight early on, but wore down quickly in the second half. On Saturday, Varsity played host team Greenwood High, winning with the same scoreline, 7-0. In the final, your Tigers were too powerful for local rivals Rogers, and goals by Sydney Suggs, Tyler Ann Reash and Megan Gotwalt insured that the trophy, and three successive shutouts, would return to Bentonville.

Your JV Lady Tigers, who only entered the tournament at the beginning of the week due to a previous team's forfeiture, began their quest on Friday night against last year's 6A State Finalist Russellville. Your Tigers put up a strong effort, but were undone by a very disciplined and experienced Cyclone squad by a score of 2-0. On Saturday they began well versus Holland Hall(OK), but couldn't wear down the strong Holland High backline. In the second half, your Tigers went down a goal, but were not going to be denied what their positive play deserved, and with less than ten minutes left, Natalie Smith tied it up. And with 57 seconds left on the clock, a dramatic combination goal by Stevie Law and Sydney Wagner gave your JV Lady Tigers the lead to secure a 2-1 win. In the consolation final, they faced Putnam City West, and the Oklahomans could have been forgiven for thinking they were facing the same Bentonville team from the day before, because although the scoreline wasn't the same, the overall result was, and your JV Tigers won by 4-1.

Thanks to all of the parents and fans who made the journey to support your Lady Tigers!

Both your Varsity Tigers and JV begin conference play on Tuesday against Fayetteville at home. Games begin at 4:00pm.
